So Sunny and So Strange

I live in Italy for almost ten yeas... It is wonderful country, beautiful views, delicious food.... Someone could say 'yes, it's fantastic, I love it', but... there is one important societal rule... it does not matter who you are, it is important who you know... I realized that I will never understand these people, even if friendly, funny, nice, there is something that makes me careful, especially in relationships. Because once understood you are not Italian, means you have no family and family's friends here....and there is nothing to protect you...

BTW, what kind of research do you do ?

Are you saying that Italians are clannish around their families and you felt like an outsider?

Do you speak Italian ? Because you write English as well as an American and you lived in Poland which means you speak are very smart and cultured.
