"I Have No Patience For Drunks"

This has got to the one thing in this world that I can not tolerate! I have been around alcoholics my whole life. I have known many. You can not reason with a drunk or depend on one. I have seen what alcohol abuse does to a person and because of it I had a horrible childhood! My mom married a drunk when I was just 9 yrs old. She stayed married to him until I was 18. He was the most vile, vulgar and abusive man you could ever imagine in your worst nightmare! He beat my brother and I and my brother left home when he was just 15 yrs old. This man was like the Devil himself! I have also had the misfortune to know other people who were alcoholics and it is not a pretty picture! I was friends with this woman briefly and she was a terrible alcoholic. I did not know it at the time. She got so drunk that she came back from the grocery store and left her 1 yr old in his carseat in her car. I had stopped by her house and when I came up the driveway her baby boy was screaming his lungs out. It was a hot day too! I took him out of his carseat and went into the house. There were grocery bags all over the floor and there she was passed out on the couch!! She woke up and tried to pretend she had just got home! I knew that was lie! I told her husband when he came home from his deployment and I suggested he get her into rehab right away or I would call the authorities! Some people might feel sorry for someone like that but in that way I am heartless! I do not feel sorry for a drunk!

I can't agree with you more. I married one and ignored the early warning signs. I'm still with him but everyday it's the same incoherent conversation. I can't help but believe that the disease concept is just another excuse for their behavior. My heart bleeds for that poor baby. I hope the father did what was best for that child.

grew up the same way ... it's a tough life but a heckuva lesson to learn! i'm rather no-nonsense about it as well. it must have to do with our past experiences ... not to mention ... a baby being involved? OMG! detestable!
