It's The Worst

I have a really severe case of osgood schlatters disease. I am female and was diagnosed when I was 12. That was 3 years ago. At the time I was a competitive gymnast working out 20 hours a week. After severely weeks of rest and 2 months of light workouts my THIRD doctor looked me straight in the eye and said that if I didn't want to have knee replacement surgery along with patella surgery for my 18th birthday then I needed to stop all sports. I still haven't gotten the okay to run, or jump. I wear a brace 24/7 and over the years I have been on many different anti inflammitiories and pain killers. I have also failed (as in the docs have been unable to fix me) physical therapy twice. Because the osgood schlatters is so severe, the tendon pulls on my growth plate enough that it cracks about once every two weeks. In case osgood wasn't bad enough, I suffer from skeleton immaturity (my bones and even teeth are approximately 2.5 years behind in development) so the doctors have know idea when the pain should subside. Oh and what angers me the most, I am barely 5'2'' (my mom is 5'3'' and my dad 6'1'')

I'm so sorry you're going through such a traumatic time right now. I can't even imagine your pain. Prayers your way. Oh, and don't feel so bad about being shorty in the fam...I am too and it makes you seem cutest out of all of 'em.

ive had it for 2 years i thought i got it from falling from a tree but it turned out to be osgood schlatters. i told my mum she did nothing about it then when i told her a second time we went to the doctor who told us it was a growing up thing and that i would be fine and the pain would go away, when it didnt we went back and the doctor told me it was osgood schlatters so i stopped p:e and went to physio

I am also a female and have had it for about 4 years. I dont know why it wont go away, it hurts really bad. I do Karate 3 days a week and i dance. I basically go through the pain. I havent ever told any of my gym teachers because honestly what are they gonna do. I wish it would go away. It hurts to do everything especially if i knock it against the edge of a chair or i get kicked there in karate. :(
