Lifelong Panic

I've been having panic attacks as long as I can remember. For two years I was chronically agoraphobic, and at 19 my doctor prescribed Paxil. Two months ago, the Paxil just stopped having any affect on how anxious I was and I started having panic attacks, while driving. Having something to control the amount of anxiety I experience daily had been a godsend, especially as I have four children and *need* to drive to take them to school etc... After increasing my dose, which did nothing, I changed doctors who prescribed Fluox (Prozac) which while helping with mild depression, does nothing at all to help manage my panic attacks. I know how to do controlled breathing, trying to distract myself, to bring myself down from a potential panic attack, but it usually doesn't work and I end up having to take Ativan (which then eliminates my ability to drive home, because I'm little and 1mg of Ativan makes me feel drunk and giggly, which I do not like at all, though it's better than panicking)... I'd prefer to not have to take that at all if I can avoid it...

I'm thinking about talking to my doctor about changing my prescription to something I've been reading about. I'm very keen to try Zoloft. I was wondering if anyone else here had experience with this particular medication???

Thanks,

Sraddha

I was cycled through celexa, paxil, zoloft, effexor xr, prozac, and now seroquel.
I'm afraid there is no break through relief to report, I have used lorazapam all along, it's been the only thing that helped.
I'm glad to see you don't like taking it (it's generic for ativan) I have come across people that got relief from it and the elation of relief, as they continued to use it they no longer got that "Thank god..." sensation and felt the pills weren't working like they used to. That's a sticky trap.

I WAS ON PAXIL ALSO AND ALSO ZOLOFT AND ZOLOFT DID NOT DO ANYTHING BUT, MAKE ME A ZOMBY!! GOOD LUCK. I'M THE SAME BOAT YOU ARE IT IS AWFUL! HOPE YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS. I TRIED ALL KINDS OF ANTI-DEPRESSANTS AND THEY DID NOT WORK FOR ME. I TAKE A XANAX WHILE I FEEL A ATTACK COMING ON. TAKE CARE!XOXOX-AMY
