Suffering With Pica For Years

I have had pica for at least seven years or perhaps longer. I am a twenty year old college student who lives in New York City. I chew and spit ajax and I also compulsively chew ice. I would also probably chew sand if I had the opportunity. I have chewed and spit out other powdery cleaners such as barbo and comet although I find it too strong and most exclusively stick to ajax. I know for sure that I have an iron deficiency which probably makes me anemic and from research I learned that this is probably the cause of my pica but I can't seem to seek treatment. I worry about the effects it will have on my mouth or throat if I were to ever accidentally swallow a lot of it. My friends and family know that I always chew ice and think nothing of it but no one knows that I chew ajax, i'm too embarrassed to tell anyone. I even keep a can of it hidden in my closet at all times. I chew it several times a day and follow it with a cup of ice to get the flavor out of my mouth. I fear that I will never be able to stop because I crave the smell, taste and especially the texture. I would really appreciate talking to someone who is going through something similar because I feel like i'm the only person in the world going through this. This is the only group on the net i've found so far and theres only four people in it. Can anyone please just contact me, I feel like such an outcast.

I have had Pica for close to 12 years. I started it after getting a gastric bypass. I chew on yellow Household gloves, and I like a specific brand.

Don't be let down because you have pica. Many people around the world are suffering too. If you want to stop eating and sneaking these items, try to go to therapies or a trusted person you can talk to. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!
