Polymyalgia For Five Years Now-

Hi all,
I have PMR for five years and am down to 2 1/2mg. prednisone after many fluctuations on doses with flare-ups. Started on 20mg with a sed rate of 40. Sed rate is now 11 yet I have bad pain in all of my fingers.
Anyone else have finger stiffness and pain with PMR? I wonder if it is the PMR or the withdrawal from less prednisone. I am also on 750mg. Dolobid NSAID to help wean off the prednisone.
I have neck pain and pain behind the upper legs and tops of both shoulders. The first pains I ever got were in both knees with low fever so was tested first for Lyme disease. Then the pain went to both arms and shoulders and backs of both legs. The blood work indicated PMR.
The PMR surfaced after getting some thirty five insect bites in three days while in the woods. And also, at that time, I'd mowed a huge lawn up there manually and exhausted all my muscles. But can't tell for sure what caused this. Maybe genetic.
Am on a good vegetarian eating plan so I never gained weight with the prednisone. I lost weight. Very little sugar and dairy too. Lots of vegetables, beans, legumes, some wild salmon, rice, nut milk and fruits - excluding citrus.
Just heard about Magnesium helping with pain, so started on that. Will post if any improvement occurs. Will take more Vitamin D too, since I rarely expose myself to the sun due to a bout with skin cancer on my nose.
Taking it day by day and trying not to get down with the limitations the finger pains cause these days.
Hoping all of you are having less pain today. Visit my PMR hub at: http://linniem52.hubpages.com/hub/PMR-Polymyalgia-Rheumatica-Support

I have PMR and much pain in my fingers and hands - never taken steroids - trying to manage with NSAID's and supplements like fish oil and curcumin. They feel better as teh day wears on and I stretch out my hands but can feel the swelling in my hands, shoulders, arms - which is a drag for certain. Good luck!!

I had back pain and a little hip pain which I thought was due to breaking my back after Hurricane Katrina 2005.On vacation I went blind in one eye and was diagnosed with temporal artritis and PMR, my ESR was 105. I was given one thousand mgs of predisone IV for 3 days then 60mg and now taking 30mg and feeling terrible. I have hip pain really bad and arm weakness. I can only walk 10 steps before having to sit down. Doctor said large doses of Predisone is known to wear out the hips. I am using a walker with a seat but I'm only going from the bed to the chair or to the toilet. I'm thinking of getting and electric chair.
You wrote you've had relapses, how long were you feeling well?
