It's Hard

I find when I first meet someone, I have to work hard to find things in common with them because my interests are a little non-mainstream. If I do find something in common, I tend to put up a wall so they can't get too close. I guess I'm afraid of how they'd treat me if they found out who I "really" am. It's like I have this obstacle course for people to become my friend. Only after they've run the gauntlet can they be allowed to be my friend. I don't want that, of course, but I find that I do it again and again with people.
