It Started Around My Earsi think i had a couple patched on my scalp when i was a teen, but ignored it. then in my late 20's i noticed flakiness near my ears. then in 1998, i traveled out of the country and took anti-malarial drugs. that was when all hell broke loose. it spread across my scalp like a tight cap. it started with a red spot on my elbow. it is in many of my wedding photos. then a patch started there. it didnt register that ir was psoriasis. i thought it was a wart and tried wart medicine. anyway, now i have patches all over. when i get a new patch, i still dont always realize what it is. they arent all the same. i was lucky in that other than my scalp, most were not itchy until this year. this year im in a cold place and the itching is awful.
i also have some anxiety, and so if i let my scalp go, i start digging at it. it becomes obsessive, and i scratch til i bleed. does anyone else do that?
it is also on elbows, knees, legs...
about 5 years ago, someone finally game me something topical that helps. its clobetasol propionate for my scalp and clotrimazole and betamethasone diprorionate for the rest. its still red, but it hold it at bay to some extent. stuff prior did almost nothing.
i have patches in a lot of places that people can see. for the most part, i just dont care. i still wear bathing suits, sleeveless tops, shorts and skirts. nothings going to stop me from being comfortable.
but it is hard to explain to inquisitive children who point and ask where i got this or that booboo. and then the next time i see them, why hasnt it gone away yet. there are also people who seem nervous like i might have something catchy.
im just really glad it isnt quite on my face. i have also heard of people that have it on their genitals. of course, no one wants that. i see people around with it and only once did i say 'hey! you have psoriasis!' it made them uncomfortable. i just have never known anyone else with it. i dont know of anyone in my family that had it either. i know psoriasis is not fun, but i'd rather have it all my life than ever get cancer. cancer runs in my family.
