I Have Purpura Simplex
Last week, I noticed for the first time about 100 little red dots on my legs about the size of a pinpoint. They didn't itch or hurt and they were all below my knees so I didn't pay much attention. Two days ago, I noticed that now each of them has spread out and there are more of the smaller ones too. We had friends staying at the Great Wolf Lodge over the weekend and they invited us to join them. The Great Wolf, in case anyone doesn't know, is a hotel/resort that has a wonderful indoor water park. I've been wanting to go there for three years - it is right down the street from me but you can't go to the waterpark if you don't know a guest. Anyway, of course, I look like "Typhoid Mary" with all these stupid little red blotches all over my lower legs and am embarrassed to wear a bathing suit in front of a hotel filled with people so I go and sit at the water park with long pants on and read a book while my husband and six year old and the rest of our group have an afternoon of fun. ARGHHHH. Today, my dermatologist tells me that I have this incurable skin issue called Purpura Simplex/Schamberg's Disease. He says there is really no cure but gave me a prescription for a Desonide lotion to rub on my legs twice a day that MAY possibly lessen the severity of the patches.
Everything I've read on the internet says that the "Eruptions" last for years???? I guess I'm just going to have to not worry about what other people think and wear my shorts and bathing suits and if everyone leaves the pool when I get in, there will be more room for me and my family in it. LOL
I made a vow to live healthier this past year. I've lost 23 pounds and still counting, changed my eating habits and evertime I do something to improve myself, fate deals me another disfiguring condition that is chronic!! I'm so frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent everyone!! I just got the news this morning so its all still pretty fresh!
