What If We Did Not Have The Bible?

The question is serious and the answer is not all that difficult to reach.

The Bible is the word of God handed down through the ages recording the relationship between God and the Israelites as recorded in the Jewish writings unchallenged with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The credibility of the Biblical record though under attack constantly remains reliable and truthful.

The Bible is not a scientific book as such but has made things known which took hundreds of years for science to agree.

The prophecy contained in the Bible has been accurate and identified many powerful nations long before they came into existance.

All morality and ethics are Biblically based, they are not some offshoot of evolution.

Take away the Bible and try and picture the type of world they may now be in existence if mankind had not totally become extinct.

No justice, survival of the fittest, no morality, no ethics, the nearest we come to being able to get a rough look at such a plight ,is to make a careful study of the many communist regimes that did flourish throughout the world in recent times.

Hundereds of millions of people have been killed in support of communism in Russia, China, and those under  Pol Pot to name a few.

Is that not the type of world that would have taken over in all countries without the influence of the Bible message?

Why have the great nations of the world prospered, because of their foundation. The USA , England  and her colonies have been blessed by God up to this stage in history, but all that is about to change.

Please consider that the original Word of God are the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. That is the Word of God. To my understanding, what we have today are copies of these manuscripts.

Thus what we also have today are translations of those Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. Not once does the Bible (which by the way, the word Bible is not even used in the Bible) ever mention or record that the translators are inspired! However, it is their translations that allow us to read and OBEY Gods Word from the English language.

In other words, it would be wise to consider several reputable translations such as the King James Version, the NIV version, the NASB, Young's Literal..etc and become well rounded in your studies and teachings of Christ. A better word is the "discipline" of the Lord and Savior Jesus.

AND of course, please do what you think is best. The choice is yours!

Re Synesthesia.

Another disgruntled Christian of some long standing, welcome to an extensive worldwide club.

I too had been associated with a group that left me scarred over a doctrinal issue, i turned my back on Churchianity for almost thirty years, but could not hide from God. That experience away from organised religion has allowed me to be open in my appraoch to the Bible and many things i was taught by man have been confined to the rubbish bin, my experience has been life changing, i am open to Gods direction, not following a set of creeds put out by the different denominations. You have chosen to be a Buddhist and it is not my intention or responsibilty to convert you or anyone else, someone once said that no amount of evidence will change an unbeliever to a believer, only God can do that. You say the Bible is a pile of junk etc and that is your right, i do not intent to change your mind and in so doing waste your time and mine, you have obviously made a decision to follow Buddha, i am trying to follow Jesus, both of us can't be right, i have genuine inner peace which is the fulfillment of a promise made in the Bible, the cost was obedience, when physical death overtakes me my fate is sealed for the better, thank you for your comment we must agree to disagree.

But as you said, history was written by the winners. If their "Saviour" did die aren't they more likely to say that he conquered death? If the prophecies were not fulfilled maybe they just said they were. Or edited the one's which were not in the bible from the bible. Who is to say that Mary was a Virgin? When the Hebrew was being translated to English they said Virgin, but it was meant to be "Young Woman" look it up. Doesn't the bible teach a strict ethical system also? And since the first Buddha was an atheist it isn't surprising he ignored the issue of God's existence (or lack of). It provides no answer to the meaning of existence because in this day and age their are none who no of it. Buddhism also does not talk about creation, BECAUSE IT DOESN'T KNOW, and isn't that better than making up a story? And has Jesus Christ ever confronted you with the need to become right with God? Cause for all the 13 years I was a Christian he didn't for me.

Re Synesthesia. There are a lot of teachings from Buddha that don't appeal to me when compared with the Biblical view of mankind.

Buddha fulfilled no prohecies, was born of the natural union of a human father and mother, lived a less than perfect moral life, and is dead today. Buddhism teaches that the question of Gods existence is meaningless. Buddha believed in reincarnation. He taught that every evil thing we do ties us more tightly to the cycle of rebirth. Buddha taught that a person can escape the cycle of reincarnation and enter nirvana only by following the Noble Eight-fold Path , a strict ethical system.Buddhist teachings include dedication to meditation. The classical Buddhist offers no personal salvation. It stands against sin and immorality, but it ignores the issue of Gods existence and our need of redemption. At its root Buddhism is a form of agnosticism or at least practical Atheism. It provides no answers about the ultimate meaning of existence. Although its answers may be better than no answers at all, by denying the ultimate meaningfulness of life Buddhism provides its followers with little motivation to conquer evil or to work for justice. Jesus Christ, in contrast confronts us with the need to become right with God and to introduce a new order into the world , an order He called the " Kingdom of God " Rolaant L Mckenzie.

I'm Buddhist and am a little offended that you will put us in the same list as witchcraft. Also I don't no if you have made a mistake or if you live in a country where a religion is spelt differently but it is spelt Muslim. Also I would like to add that "Buddah" is not a religion, or even the correct spelling of "Buddha.

I am a socialist and so would much prefer communism to capitalism. And also when the bible was first written and people truly lived their lives by it, they lived in a state which was similar to communism.

I can't tell due to your anonymity how old you are, as such i can only conclude you may be old enough to have read some history books and noticed that the conqueors of history wrote history.

The era on which i made my comment is the modern era last two hundred years or so, if you live in a western nation like the USA or Great Britain or the colonies the legal and morals were based on the Biblical foundation, of course they are breaking down these days.If you are so convinced that the Biblical standards are flawed then would you rather be ruled by communism? you would not be in a situation where you are free to speak and free to follow anything you choose provided you do not break the law, sit back and contemplate the type of world we would have had the Nazis and Japanese triumphed in WW2 i cannot explain the Holocaust nor any of the other atrocities perpertrated throughout WW1 and WW2 if you do not believe in the Bible that is your right and you have expressed your opinion, the Bible still has a place in the Judicial system and politics in my country and probably yours, to date nothing like the crusades has taken place in recent history and religious tolerance displayed by Christians still has not degenerated into violence against other belief systems, The facts are, no Bible no Christianity or Judeaism, which leaves a mix of Hindu, buddah, moslem, animism, witchcraft etc and a variety of other religions, which one do you prefer?

I think your assumptions about the bible are not far short from ludicrous.

"Take away the Bible and try and picture the type of world they may now be in existence if mankind had not totally become extinct."

What are you basing this on? The Bible has not always been there but mankind has got along fine. A large proportion of the world are not believers, and also there are many who have never heard of the bible. These people are not animals!

And saying that people have been killed in the name of politics is not clever. What about the crusades? Fighting against another race so that you can capture THEIR holy place? Thousands of Christians must have died. And we never did take Jerusalem. Where was your god then? And in the holocaust! The Jews were meant to be gods chosen. But it seems their "God" abandoned them.

Face facts. The Bible is not the word of God, but the word of man. If it's the word of God why are there so many different versions? Are there moral teachings in the bible? Absolutely. People are stupid ugly mean creatures that need a leash. If you don't teach people the difference between right and wrong you get anarchy. And if they're just hand me down teachings, why is the Old Testament and the New Testament so different? Why don't the Jews believe that Jesus was the son of God? I find it funny that in the Dead Sea Scrolls it was written that Jesus himself was against organized religion.

You pointed out England and the USA as these great empires. What about Rome? They were around for a long time too. How about the empires of Asia? Japan? They lasted for hundreds even thousands of years without a bible.

Your also comparing political designations with religious ones. Communism is a religion now? What the hell. Your confusing yourself. Hundreds of millions of people have been killed for religious reasons too.

Religion is bullshit. Accept God for God and be done with it. Stop using the bible for an excuse. God gave us free will. Use it.
