Jeremiah & Depression

Love, Peace and Joy!!

One biblical example who I believe faced depression is Jeremiah. Many believe that the book of Lamentations was originally written inspired through Jeremiah.

The Bible says:

• Jeremiah felt afflicted (affliction - a state of great suffering and distress due to adversity) Lamentations. 3:1

• Jeremiah dealt with bitterness and hardship (Lam 3:5)

• Jeremiah felt God was not listening to His prayers (Lam 3:8)

• Jeremiah felt defective/laughed at (Lam 3:14),

• Jeremiah dealt with bitterness (Lam 3:15),

• Jeremiah was not happy (Lam 3:17),

• Jeremiah lost hope (Lam 3:18),

However, Jeremiah found comfort in dealing with his form of depression. Please take note on how he did in verse 22-26:

22 The LORD'S LOVING KINDNESSES indeed never cease,
For HIS COMPASSION never fail.

23 They are new every morning;

24 The LORD is my portion," says my soul,
"Therefore I HAVE HOPE IN HIM."

25 The LORD IS GOOD to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.

For the salvation of the LORD.

Jeremiah battled his depression by simply REMINDING HIS MIND what God provides to those who worship Him.

Furthermore, more encouragement is found in verse 37 when it is written:

Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass,
Unless the Lord has commanded it?

In other words, it is God who is in control of everything!!

It is wrong for us to complain in how God does things:

39 Why should any living mortal, or any man,
Offer complaint in view of his sins?

40 Let us examine and probe our ways,
And let us return to the LORD.

I hope this falls on peaceful and receiving hearts. I know this reminded me why I serve the Lord. May we pray for each other and may the Lord continue to be with all our families.

With warm Regards,

Now that you point it out that way, it looks like Jeremiah had bi-polar disorder

Thanks I really needed to read this story today :)

I find God's Spirit of truth in you're words rather than the spirit of error that leads this world. 2 Corinthians 4:4, 11:13-15, Ephesians 2:2, 1 John 4:1, 6, Revelation 12:9

And that is because my heart through faith works in the same way as Jeremiah because I live in constant hardships within a religious world that claims love while having glaciers for hearts that God can see so well. Hebrews 4:12-13. And without the commanded love of Christ in John 13:34, there will be no blessings for the tree of life. Revelation 22:14
Do shepherd's teach those scriptures?

So what I do always is think of the mind of Paul in all of his great sufferings written in 2 Corinthians 11:23-27 while seeing his great faith when being stoned; I also look closely at Job and all he lost and how greatly his suffering was. I look closely at Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego and all men of God that have suffered as a lesson that must be learned very deeply ----- because I am no better, therefore I must become spiritually prepared for anything and everything. But people today only look to man---and when God tells all plainly that the blind are leading the blind---they believe Him not and just continue in darkness.

To find another in Spirit and Truth is as rare as finding a pinhead in the depths of the pacific, because with my eighteen years of only God and not man with the words of Christ in John 15:18-20----I am not liked and alone just as Christ said it would be. Amen

Some traditions hold that Despair is a Cardinal Sin. This is interesting since this would be among the few sins that do not commit through an act of commission, but through omission instead. I guess that we all must engage in the game of life, even if we don't play it very well. Thank you for your thoughts and insights.

I deal with depression also. I do put my hope in god, he knows what he is doing. Life can make you feel hopeless at times, but we must wait on the lord for our healing. You seem greatly knowledgable with the bible scriptures. Thank you so much for your scripture reference about Lamentations. May god continue to bless you, you were a blessing to my ears....and mind...

whatever gives you peace

Wow that may help some
