The Mondays: 10 Random Thoughts For The Week Of October 12, 2009

So you may have noticed that I took a week off from The Mondays.  Alas, I was not lucky enough to actual have taken the week off, but I thought we would take a little break.  Sometimes absence makes... well, whatever, you know the saying.

This weekend was Blue Angels and Fleet Week in San Francisco.  It was a bit foggy this weekend so on Saturday, the show ended up being canceled.  Yes, this does suck for those people who came from outside the immediate San Francisco area to see the show, but man... on the evening news... the OUTRAGE!  The continuous stream of complaints that they didn't post a Facebook update or tweet that the show was canceled and how were people supposed to know.  Well, here's a suggestion... when you looked up in the sky and you saw that no plains were flying... did you not think... "Hmmm, perhaps the show is canceled."  This is a bit like the girls in Australia that got trapped in the sewer -- still not sure what two grown women were doing in the sewer -- and they updated their Facebook status to explain that they were trapped in the sewer and to send help.

Really?  You had strong enough cell reception but rather than calling, you know, emergency services yourself, you thought the best option was to update your Facebook status.  Really?  I mean, really?  I can barely get a strong cell signal in my own home.  What kind of network are you on ladies?

OK... well why wait?  Let's dive into this week's random thoughts:

1. Have you ever had a moment when you realize that you thought you were friends with someone because you liked to hang out and drink together... then you realize that you may really be friends because no one else can stand hanging out with two drunk idiots?

2. Have you ever watched a movie that you originally watched when you were younger and then suddenly realize that you had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.  This feeling is almost immediately followed by wondering if my parents were in their right minds allowing me to watch this in the first place.  No wonder I have "issues."

3. I think part of a best friend's job -- and this goes double for EP friends - should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

4. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what someone said?

5. Nothing is more off putting in a relationship then when you accidently happen upon the other's "naughty / goodies" drawer.

6. On occasion, it really is OK to drink your feelings.

7. Does anyone really get into the shower first and THEN turn on the water?

8. I have a friend who just got a job as a middle school teacher.  In her new hire orientation, part of the on-boarding process included a full course in her need to carry personal liability insurance as she would not be covered by the school and it would be in her own best interest if something was to "happen."  WOW!  We really need to rethink the war zones that have become our schools.

9. Is it just me or are pop stars getting crazier and crazier the older I get?

10.  Don't you just wish that life came as many "do overs" as your childhood games did?

OK, chew on that for this week. ;)

See and I never get in before turning on the water... get the water warmed up and then step in. Funny how we always think that our way is more the normal... versus the abnormal.<br />
<br />
Consider me SCHOOLED! ;)

I get in the shower everyday then turn on the water... i never thought of doing it the other way around.<br />
Unless of course someone is already in there and I want to surprise them like one of the other posters mentioned! <br />

#2 Almost every movie from the eighties fits into this category here. I can't even believe the drug and sex references, which as a kid went completely over my head!<br />
<br />
#7 The answer is yes, and I think that rings true for everyone that lives here in Hawaii. So, you've at least got one whole state that does. <br />
<br />
Thanks for the chuckles, Jake!

i love number three

I also strongly believe that if you are not smart enough to simply call emergency services.... wait... if you are so challenged that you got yourself challenge in a sewer and didn't think of calling emergency services... perhaps it is best if you just stayed in the sewer. ;)

OK, I am really late here, but just had to comment Jake...I was laughing so hard over the "sewer women" my son came running from the other room, thinking I was crying! I read it to him and he said "Oh yeah, I saw that on Facebook", LOL! Also, wanted to admit I am guilty of #2 and 4, and I definitely agree with best friend's job!! Thanks once again for making me laugh during an incredible stressful time in my life!<br />
lots of love man,<br />

good to have you back epjake,like your querky toughts!!sorry to say "i am guilty of number 7" xx

3,4,and 10--I totally know what you are talking about! <br />
7--yes, me!

Once my mom decided to do a thorough cleaning of my room and gosh was i embarressed! I had about 3 stained undies under my bed, a half empty vaseline bottle, and some of my sisters mags, i often find the last pages with the breast enlargements add a turn on. It was so embarrassing to get exposed like that.. But this happened a few years back..

Jake, pop stars have ALWAYS been crazy...they are crazy before you even start to think about it...<br />
<br />
Kind of like making sure you turn on and run the water before getting into the shower...;)

i ALWAYS get in the shower first.. <br />
is it odd that i thought that was the normal way? lol

@@ 2,3,4, #4 what!! LOL thanks for the laughs! :) X

Number 3 (erase history) - AMEN, BROTHER!<br />
Number 5 (offput by goodies drawer) - have to disagree!

you would soon know if i got into the shower before turning it on,the first minute or so is freezing, would hear a yelp like a little school girl,...that'd be me! lol

good ones Jake! i actually do #7 all the time. #2 is too true and #10 would be AWESOME! thanks for sharing!

LOL. I do #4 quite a lot. These days, I try doing it only once.<br />
<br />
I do get into the shower first but then again, I live in Indonesia so no big deal.<br />
<br />
LOL @ #9. I don't want to think of it, makes me feel old.

Yay funnies!

I have 2 drunk idiot colleagues who enjoy discussing about politics and pondering about the meaning of life. Hanging out with them, can at times really turn out to be a thought provoking time. That includes number 5 too; drink your feelings with your drinking friends, but don't go to bed with them. Disaster lol<br />
<br />
I felt the same about number 2. LOL @ number 3<br />
<br />
I say "what" a lot, because I just want to be sure I'm hearing but there are people who are very impatient and they get annoyed when I said "can you repeat that?"<br />
<br />
I know someone who use to say "God is my insurance" but these days, I think he has turn to paying the yearly premium. Well, things change, people change.<br />
<br />
I am not star struck, don't really follow but sometimes saw the headlines on the front page at the news-stand. I find their names sometimes.... a bit ridiculous. <br />
<br />
There was a time I wish there are do-overs but then I probably won't be the same me today (things could be even worst) am happy to accept things just the way it is.... :)

Quite an amusing young man!

Nice Jake. <br />
<br />
I grew up in SF and always enjoyed the Blue Angels! Over the years they have cancelled on ocassion due to the weather, and never have I heard that people were outraged. Hmm... SF is definitely not what it used to be. <br />
<br />
I grew up in the 60's and 70's and I lived in the Mission district. Everyone knew their neighbors - in fact many of us were 3rd and 4th generation. The city has changed considerably since then. I think people nowadays feel too "entitled" - just my opinion. The Blue Angels will be back, and you don't need Facebook or Twitter to know when they are there!<br />
<br />
#10 - Do overs would be nice, but then our stories and experiences wouldn't be as interesting.<br />
<br />
Thanks for the start of a thought provoking week!

to 7 - yes, I do. <br />
<br />
I've yet to grasp why people and surveys keep asking that though. Who cares?

reason I love ur thoughts....<br />
1~ you make me think and think<br />
2~ you make me laugh at what I think about<br />
3~you see the idiotic things in life as I a friend<br />
4~my rough days are eased by your undeniable humor <br />
5~last and never ur friend I promise to erase ur history!!!!!!! ;>

I do number 4 all of the over a hundred times a day.

so you would be the ONLY person I know who actually gets in the shower first. see, you do meet new and different people on EP. ;)

LMAO, I am not a huge Facebook fan as anyone who has read my profile can attest lol. I actually do number 7 BTW if it is early in the morning as the cold water shocks the heck out of me and actually wakes me up.

I missed this last week. Glad to see you back at it again. And #10 is SOOOO TRUE!<br />
<br />
I think that almost all the time.
