About two years ago, one of my friends and I were walking along the railroad tracks. We heard the train coming, and were pretty excited, since this was one of three days that the steam engine was running. (The rest of the year it ran the diesel one.) We quickly got off of the track and stood on the side, near the station. The train came closer and she saw her dad. On a stupid whim, she decided to go talk to her dad for a second, so she ran across the tracks. She told him whatever she had to and then started to come back across. However, her shoelaces got stuck on a railroad tie and she panicked. I saw her face and then saw how close the train was to her and screamed. I launched myself across those tracks and pulled her foot out of her shoe, knocking us both to the ground. I remember how loud it was and the side of the train almost skimming the very tip of my nose, like about an inch away. That was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me, and I'm so lucky that we are both still alive.

That was a very brave act. But also a very stupid situation to be in. I am glad everything turned out for the best.
