I was diagnosed with beta thalassemia minor when i was about 9 or 10 years old. I inherited it from my mom. Before I was diagnosed (when I was 8), I always experience migraine & couldn't focus in class. The adults around me had also commented that I looked pale. I didn't know what was wrong with me until my mom brought me to the clinic and went for a blood test. The result confirmed that I had beta thalassemia minor.

I managed to live a normal life despite having to take a tablet of folic acid for the rest of my life. I noticed that if I don't take the tablet, I'd experience migraine all over again just like what I had when I was 8.

There was once where I didn't take the tablet for a week because I ran out of it & hadn't got the time to go to the pharmacy. I was in bed, taking my nap when suddenly my head felt like it was going to explode. I thought I was going to die at that moment but thank God the pain subsided after a few minutes. I don't know if any you had the same experience as I did.

Physically, the thalassemia minor symptoms are there. My skin is quite yellowish and I have under-eye dark circles.

Despite the symptoms, I work out frequently and ate whatever I can eat.

I can say having this disorder doesn't negatively affect my life at all.
