I Have the Brca2 Gene
My name is Kacy. I am 33 years old. I've been married for almost 15 years and I have 4 children and a step son. My mother died of breast cancer at 52 years old after fighting breast cancer three times over 10 years! Right before she passed we found out she was brca2 positive. She left behind my sister (30), our brother (16), myself, and 6 grandchildren!
A year after she passed I tested positive for the brca2 gene...Going into the test I already knew I wanted to proceed with a double prophylactic mastectomy if I tested positive. I really did NOT think I had the brca2 gene.
After another year I made my first consultation appointment at Stanford. One week before my appointment at Stanford I found out I needed a full hysterectomy at my yearly exam.
The brief version is this. In February I had a full hysterectomy. Five months later I had a double nipple sparing mastectomy. I had a blood clot in my left breast which landed me in emergency surgery. Then I had 5 injections into skin expanders. Next I had surgery to remove my skin expanders and put my permanent implants in. And just one week ago I had another surgery to replace my implants with ones that are not to ripple as badly as my previous ones did and I had fat graphing from my stomach placed in my breasts to cover up the rippling.
I am still not intent with the outcome of my reconstruction...but I will continue to search for an outcome that I will be happy with.
