Costochondritis Vs Tietze Syndrome
Posted June 19th, 2010 at 5:15PM
I made a trip to the ER back in 2002 for chest pain and was given a diagnosis of costochondritis. While I agreed with Dx I haven't read anything to support why it rears its ugly head every now and again..its been 8 yrs..all the literature I have read states that it usually resolves itself in a year tops..Also I had an attack today and it radiated through my back into my shoulder.. ?? Could this be Tietze? And why hasn't it resolved completly? I don't perform any repetetive tasks, I am a nurse and I am on my feet a majority of my shift..Thanks in advance for any feedback :)

Hi hope you are feeling ok today.
Mine started about 4 yrs ago when i was taken into hospital with a suspected heart attack. Thankfully it was not that.
Years went by and i thought i may have had angina due to the symptoms. I kept going back to the doctors saying that my heart hurt to which they would say that was impossible and just kept saying it was muscular.
Just before xmas just gone i couldn't take any more and went back to the doctor to insist we found out what was causing this pain that was controlling my life.
After some more blood tests and xrays still nothing until he asked if it was my ribs. No i said and home i went with some pills for reflux gullet!
I decided to look up rib pain on the net and hey presto there it was. So back to the docs i went with my print out for them to say they thought it was that but i wasn't describing it properly. It was at first classed as costochodritis but now i have Tietze's. I have had treatment from a chiropractor and cortisone injections and now having Physio to help me live with the condition
