Gluthathion, Derma Wand...

Hi I am from Philippines. I developed vitiligo when I was 28 years old. I do not know where I got it. I just remembered waking up one day and saw a big white spot on my nose. I only recalled using a strong salicylic acid for my acne and Gluthathion oral supplement, 50mg, to improve my skin tone. It wasn't even that strong compared to Glutha supplement now. Because I suspected these products caused my Vitiligo, I stopped taking and using them.

Twelve years later, I got tempted to retry the gluthathion. I bought a bottle good for a month, and with much higher gluta content, 2500 mg.
But a week  after taking them I developed a big white patch on my lower lip and more than 10 smaller ones around the mouth area. Frustrating!!!
I stopped again.

So I guess my system is rejecting the supplement.

I consulted a number of  dermatologists and they were giving me the same  pungent solution. Apply and go under the sun for 10 mins until pigments starts to comeback. But nothing happened. The white spots would just turn red and go back to paper white after a week. I started believing, there is really no cure for Vitiligo.

Two years ago my derma friend told me about steroids. So I decided to try again.  She gave me more than 20  micro injections of steriods to my vitiligo..Can you image the discomfort and agony I had. She  told me to give a month or two for the melanocytes to awaken. After two months, nothing happened. She told me we have to try again. I didn't have the courage to be pricked 20x again. Forget it..I just have to embrace my condition whole heartedly.

Last year,I  visited facial centers to have facial treatment for my melasma. I love the lighted rod  they pass on your face at the end of the every facial but it gives me a tingling sensation on the vitiligo area. After 3 facials every month , I noticed my vitiligo shrinking. I do not know the name of the gadget so I tried looking up on the web.. but too expensive. I remember derma wand on tv and tried checking online for more information. One blog mentioned that derma wand is the home version of the gadget they use in salons.

The next day I find my self buying one...duh! I was afraid to use as it's kinda giving you a small electric shock. The sales lady told me to touch the glass cover with a finger before bringing it to the face to lessen the shockwaves. The more it touches the skin, the lesser the shock. So I decided to experiment. I do not let it touch my vitiligo affected skin. Instead I slightly lift the wand when I reach the vitiligo area giving me a more intense waves.

I am impatient. I want to wake those sleeping, if not dead melanocytes by giving them shockwaves . Wrinkles on my eyes , melasma on my cheeks, vitiligo on my nose and mouth area. I am Hopeless. What have I got to lose!!

After two weeks of shocking...tonight I notice the big patch on my lower lip shrunk by 50%
the small patches are gone except for 3 but barely visible. The one of my nose is a bit stubborn but I noticed it became smaller by about 15%.

I will keep trying. I have not read blogs about over-using of these millions of electric waves on the skin yet. Let me know if there are.

Maybe I will  go back to the derma and get the 'pungent solution" and use it with the wand for the stubborn patch on my nose.

If you want to try if this wand works for you, don't buy yet.
Try going to the facial salons a couple of times and ask cosmetologist to extend time of wand on a small vitiligo and see first if it works for you.
Normally in salons, they just wave it around your face for 10 seconds. They say its for disinfection and to close pores. I extend mine to a minute. Can't really go longer than a minute as the irritating iron smell  is suffocating..hehe. Goodluck :)

I'm not advertising my son's doctor, ok... i just want to help.
Good luck.

I believe that my son got his vitiligo from his exposure to chemicals. We lived near a chemical warehouse until last december. I also noticed that chlorinated water worsens his vitiligo. 2months in his treatment, after moving into our new house, i bathed him daily with water from our local water supplier. Of course it was chlorinated. And on the 4th day, we also went swimming at a resort nearby our house. On the next day, i immediately noticed that the white patches which have started repigmenting has widened. Since then, i stopped using chlorinated water for his baths and the repigmentation of his white spots continued.

Hi my 4 year old have vitiligo. At first i thought it was a fungal infection so i applied an antifungal cream on the area. I also changed his soap to dr.wongs sulfur soap. It got a lot worse. From a pea size near his lower lip, it became a5peso size. Plus new patches appeared on his cheek, chin and neck. The total area became around 3square inch in just 6months. I brought him to dr. Nisce. She gave him a cream which i apply twice a day. Its almost 4months in his treatment and around 65% of the white spots is gone. The stubborn spot which until last month was still not responding to the treatment is now exhibiting pigmentation on the outer parts of the spot. A new spot appeared on his ear which i did not notice until 18 days ago. It's now responding to treatment. Since vitiligo has no cure yet, i think i just have to be vigilant of new spots appearing. I've read that if you treat the white spots immediately, they also repigment easily.
As a thankful mommy, I promised that i would share what i know to help others.

hi! i'm interested with the topic you just discussed because of my daughter's prblem..she is only 16 yrs old that's why my heart hurts so much for her condition. I'm interested with the facial the salon does for your vitiligo. do you think it's the same in all salons? ganun ba lahat ang procedure nila and may equipt ba lahat sila katulad nung ginamit sa iyo? do you know exactly what was used in your case? thank you very much...i'm really worried with my daughter's condition..please help

The derma wand actually caused my Melasma to come back and its darker. The rest of my skin does great. My dermatologist said to test it on skin for at least ten days to see if any reactions happen. Other people have complained about the discoloration tho. But my acne on my chin is gone thanks to the Derma wand.

Meron din po akong vitiligo sa shoulder continue to spread in my face. Pls help me guys. Do you know any remedy? Thank you.

Meron din akong Vitiligoo I tried Salicylic Acid, nagwork sya sa legs ko! I'm still using it and there's no progress, white spots spread in my back ang stomach! What should I do?
