Stop And Watch

At the retirement home where I work
There is a picture window
Every morning that is where you will
find me and another resident
watching the beautiful sunrise

I love to watch the sun rise beneath me. To see the cloudscape slowly blushing pink orange red. To watch the dark disperse, the shadows recede and the figures of light elongate over the landscape thousands of feet below me. Racing in seemingly slow motion over the reddened earth of the Pilbara desert. I like to touch down on the promise of a new day. To see the sunrise from the confines of a plane, in the midst of the canvas as it's being painted is to truly feel the weight of my inconsequential ness.

Sunrises are spectacular. My favorites were those in AZ, coming over a mountain range. Another great piece of artwork on nature's canvas was the double rainbows after the monsoon rain ended for the day.
