Recurring Dreams

I have had a recurring dream for as long as I can remember.  I used to have it all the time as a child and I still have it occasionally, but not more than once every couple of years.  I remember it clearly and it is the same every time.

It begins with me standing in the bow of a boat in the middle of the ocean.  It's a beautiful, calm and sunny day.  Suddenly, the perspective changes so that the bow is ridiculously high and looking down at the water is like looking off the edge of a skyscraper.  At the bottom there are sharks circling.  Then I fall off the bow towards the sharks.  I wake up before I hit the water (and the sharks) in a panic with my heart racing.

I have no idea what triggered this, especially since I was born and grew up in the middle of the continent with no ocean anywhere near.  I certainly hadn't had any experiences with sharks or even seen the movie Jaws.  But to this day I have a fear of sharks.

Weird.
