I love seeing this poem again. I was listening to Allen Ginsberg reading it. Just amazing.

Wow! I'd have to say for sure that read was the best thing that's happened in a long time. No way I can talk about it. It has to be read out loud, doesn't it? I'm going to come back here and read it out loud again and again the way I go back to my blog videos and listen to the music everytime I log on here.

Do you think Moloch really represents the American city like it is interpreted to be? I'm still having to really sit and deeply consider these things...I felt like Moloch was a representation of a society or community we are supposed to belong to but instead are spat out in a cruel fashion?

When I finally got across to really digesting the whole piece...I couldn't have come across something more powerful. The poem is really like spending a day inside my head.

My A.P. English teacher was the first person to introduce this poem through the class. Unfortunately I found out later that he was under investigation for distributing what a reverend at a baptist church found inappropriate. (I was reading about how the bible does have the same themes and graphic detail. But is also a respected piece of literature. Respect should be mutual for this poem as well.)

If I don't recall, he had my class send out a paper for parents to sign initially when we would be exploring different controversial works. I wouldn't be half the writer today if it wasn't for "As I lay Dying" or watching Vanessa Redgrave in Orpheus Descending with the "film as literature" lessons.

I had long wanted to write a tribute to this teacher but had not found an appropriate way except that...I finally get it now. Every single line and phrase. Just being introduced into the beat generation really opened a new perspective that I had never considered before.
