My First Hybrid Dressing With Sandals

The very first time I wore womens sandals can barely count. I was all of 10 years old. It was the days when the Dr Scholl wooden sandals were the rage. I begged my mother for a pair because they looked like so much fun to wear. At 10, it never occurred to me that this might be an issue. My mother, being the great lady she is, didn't bat an eyelash and bought me a pair. They were tan colored. I wore those sandals all summer and even to school before it got too cold.

The first time I wore womens sandals and "felt the pressure" of it was in high school. All the girls had started wearing those bass sunjun flip flops. I thought they were awesome and really really wanted a pair. I remember being at a store, again with my mother, which was next door to bass shoe store. I think I was 15 years old, maybe 14, it was 9th grade I know that. Anyway, I told Mom I would be next door and went into the Bass store. I went right up to the sandal display and found out that I was a size 10 womens. There were 2 size 10 pairs of the sandal there, one white and one tan. They also cost more money than I had. I only tried on the left one and was bout to take it off when my mother, who had come up behind me asked "do you want those?" I remember blushing and watching as she grabbed the white pair and the tan pair. I must have looked at her strangely because she said she was a size 10 too. She bought both pairs. Before leaving the store she sat down and changed into the white ones... I grabbed the chance and slipped my toes into the tan ones. I remember clomping out of the bass store, into the car and home. That next morning, I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out if I should wear the sandals to school... I finally decided I would regret it if I didn't wear them. So I did. I slipped on the sandals and jumped on the bus. I was laughed at, stared at, mocked, you name it... and by the end of the first day, the sandals were ignored. I took it one step further though. The school had state tests every year, and these tests were all day long with breaks in between. On that day, I wore my mother white pair of sandals. I remember when I got home she was surprised I had taken them, but not mad.

I have two pair of those myself. I wear them out in the warmer months nobody really seems to notice.

Thanx for the story, Your mother was truly enlightened. you are a lucky guy in that regard. I too wanted a pair of those dr. scholls but I didn't get them until I got older. It must have been pretty gruesome dealing with the kids at school-it must have toughened you up some. By the way do you know were I can get a pair in mens size 11. Thanks for sharing . good luck.

I love those type of sandals.

I wish I had ur mom
