    I just happened to run across this post. My name is Melissa and I constantly have people calling me Michelle. I don't know what it is about the name that makes people do that but, it's happened all of my life and with all sorts of people everywhere I've been. I always thought of the name Melissa being just as commonly used as Michelle. I'm not sure why Michelle is such a fallback.

      I think is similar pattern of consonants and that my atttaction to both of them is similar in scale....
