Maintenance Work is any work that is used to maintain what you already have in your world.
So if your constantly trying to keep your current circle of friends and never trying to make new ones your focusing on maintenance work. If your constantly doing the same activities without trying new ones that interest you then your focusing on maintenance activities. If you want to gain experience or knowledge in a subject but don't take the time to actually learn it then your not doing Improvement Work.
Ultimately our life at best can be maintained if we do Maintenance Work but never improved. Rarely though is it even maintained since since life is in a constant state of flux and people are only human so keeping everything constant without making a single flaw is nigh impossible.
