Expose The Fallacy

"If gay athletes can excel at the highest level of sport, they may threaten to expose the fallacy upon which heterosexual masculinity is built. Therefore, on an attempt to maintain sport as a site of orthodox masculine production, individuals within the institution are enabled to resist gay male participation through overt and covert homophobia. Ironically, sport becomes a safe space for those desiring to deeply conceal their same-sex desires. Athletes (particularly in team sports) are shrouded in a cloud of heterosexual assumption, while simultaneously engaging in a highly charged, homoerotic environment."
