My Neverland

I am....an eternal wanderer. One of the names I bear is Gryphon's Heart, and this is my angel. It is a snow gryphon, one of the rare breeds that is found only in the northern region on Erathia, far north of Castle Gryphonheart, which is, and will ever be my heart's immortal resting place. To the northeast, there lies a vast Elvish forest, and to the north, a barren desert which is said to be the ascension place to the ethereal city of Celeste. This castle is my home, if I could call any place home. I will forever be a wanderer, but this is where I leave my heart in keeping, and forever I feel the call of the sea. May the Lord haste the day when I return to this heaven on earth. The ocean spray on my face while standing on the castle's bridge is utterly entrancing, and right at the moment I think I am in Elysium, the golden sun sets into an autumn coloured spread on the western horizon, and the sound of the gulls combined with the wind blowing lightly into a thousand conch shells is enough to put any other wanderer under a spell for all of time, never wanting to leave this Eden. The dusk's light cast on the gardens and the trees in the courtyard is intoxicating. It is as though there were a thousand faeries dancing among the branches of the maple trees, and all the flowers are inhabited by enchanted butterflies, all merrily flitting their wings. On the inland side of the castle, there are a cascade of waterfalls, all spraying the mountainside's rocky surface with a thin veil of rainbow coloured dewdrops, and all of the falls lead away far below the castle's ground, into a main river that flows through Steadwick town, and back to the ocean. At dawn, the sky's majestic beauty is lit by both the stars and the moon. Such constellations have never been seen on this earth, and will never be seen from any other land than this, for the Dragons and the Gryphons guard their paradise jealously. The Sun herself at last rises once more, lighting a new day, and in the pale light while the stars, moon and sun are all in the sky together, the mermaids bask in the dawn light, the glistening of their rainbow scales in the cold morning air mingles with the shroud of moon coloured mist that lingers on the water's surface, just above the beginning of the horizon. Upon the first movement of the Sun, the fiery Phoenix lets loose a piercing cry, and the roar of Dragon and Gryphon alike is heard from the cliffside wall of Gryphonheart. Their cries are a lamentation, for the passing of Time, that another day has come and passed once more. Immortal they are, but their lament is not for themselves, but instead the mortals who inhabit their lands, and enjoy the beauty of enchantments that these majestic creatures bestow upon the land. Their mourning is broken by a new sound. Slowly, a voice rises from the parapet of the castle's wall, and the morning air is filled with the song of a young sorceress. Also immortal, she weaves in her song a tale of a journey that stretches forever, a journey that began in the ancient land of Enroth, and a lament for the destruction of this previous paradise. Her song reminds of the beauty of the past, but sheds light on the hope of the future. The roaring of the dragon ceases, and the Gryphons are still. The Phoenix cries, and the sorceress sings of one who went throughout the lands. A powerful sorceress, but could call no place her home. The Phoenix flies in front of the rising Sun, and the sorceress beholds the beauty of the flaming wings of the mystical avian. The Phoenix is quieted by the last part of the sorceress' song, and flies back to its nest. The sorceress glances down at the ocean through misted eyes, and the day's last dew to fall on the western sea is the single tear of the sorceress. The song she sang had been about no mythical being, but herself. An eternal wanderer with the restless heart of a Gryphon.
