How I view my life and the time I have on this planet is using the measure of whether or not I will have regrets if I die tomorrow. I make sure I tell my kids I love them and give them a hug every time I see them.

In love, there is no reward without risk...
I am thoughtful about it but unwilling to remain passive. Not anymore, at least.

Loving anyone is a risk. The reward is connection. We are all One. Ideally I would love anyone. Romantic love requires being vulnerable .. more so than with anyone else. To love a stranger is not the same to love someone who you want to partner with. With vulnerability comes the risk in revealing yourself to the other person for judgment, for insults, for pushing against those tender places, for attack. I believe the best defense is to be compassionate with who I am, vulnerable areas and all and be compassionate toward the other even if s/he does take try to take advantage of my vulnerabilities.

Everyone begins as a stranger. It's just a matter of finding out who remains that way and who does not.
