As a kid I couldn't have cats or much by way of pets generally because of my father's allergies. So we had parakeets! They were cute, and pretty tame, but they can't cuddle! As an adult I've had a few cats. I couldn't keep the last one I had because of a move to an apartment that didn't allow pets. She was a sweetheart and my buddy. It was really hard to give her up.  She had been brought to me as a stray. I won't be getting anymore cats unless I know I won't have to do that again! I'll never forget how when she was a kitten she once launched herself from a counter behind me onto my back while I was doing dishes! Those kitten claws are mighty sharp and she was hanging on! It hurt but I couldn't be annoyed with her. In the way that cats have, she'd already stolen my heart. And she made up for it with humor--another thing cats have a knack for. She'd taken to jumping on top of the washing machine, and one day I'd left the lid open to soak some clothes. A while later she showed up on my bed, dripping wet from head to tail, blinking at me as if to say, "Okay, you're my human, fix this now!" Of course I did, like a dutiful human. And she forgave me :)
