Esoteric is one of my favourite words, also (the opposite as you probably know) Exoteric.
also I simply hate it when people get the words etymology, and entomology confused

A good Thesaurus is also a wonderful book to have, giving many kin words that are availble to expand our understanding and vocabulary usage.
(Note I genrally don't talk like the comments I have given) But a Thesaurus would be a valuable addition to your dictionary and Library, if you don't have one. The last one I bought at Barnes and Noble (which I find to be a good one) is the [updated & expanded version of] ROGET"S 21st CENTURY THESARUS in dictionary form, (editied by the PRINCETON Language Instutute) which is a Dell Paperback (with a list price of only US$5.99) which can probably be bought cheaper at www.amazon.com. But for a word-discovery lover, you will find it well worth your invenstment.

Did you know that the esoteric epitomy of words can be discovered by the perusal and rumination of the eytomology of the words?

The irony of your story tickled my funnybone. *sorry, I'm in one of those dorky moods this morn.!*
