# Need help in converting simple Math word problems.( English to English)

Most of the rural children I work with - have ESL ( English as a second language), and are just learning the language now.
They do not know or understand the word 'muffin', 'recipe', or 'diapers'.

So I need some one who can volunteer a few minutes of their time - here and there..... for  converting  English to English sentences ?

For example :
1) Lisa is cooking muffins. The recipe calls for 7 cups of sugar. She has already put in 2 cups. How many more cups does she need to put in?

Will be converted to :

1 ) Lisa is cooking bread. It calls for 7 cups of sugar. She has already put in 2 cups. How many more cups does she need to put in?

2) At a restaurant, Mike and his three friends decided to divide the bill evenly. If each person paid \$13 then what was the total bill?

Will be converted to :

2) At a hotel , Kumar and his three friends decided to divide the bill evenly. If each person paid 13 Rupees then what was the total bill?

3) How many packages of diapers can you buy with \$40 if one package costs \$8?

Change the word diaper to ' biscuits', and currency to Indian Rupees.

4) Last Friday Trevon had \$29. Over the weekend he received some money for cleaning the attic. He now has \$41. How much money did he receive?

Change Trevon to Kumar.

5) Last week Julia ran 30 miles more than
Pranav. Julia ran 47 miles. How many
miles did Pranav run?

Change Julia to Lisa

and so on......

These need basic word - editing skills and some interest and imagination that will light up the children's lives and their future. It's not boring.

The kids I work with - lack motivation BUT energetic and curious, and they want to learn.

Looking for some volunteers who would like to donate some time - for this noble cause.

It's a great feeling at the end of the day - if you gave back something to the society.
