I'm An Adventurous Eater
When I eat at a restaurant my favorite thing to do is order something I've never tried before, I'll often choose a dish that I can't pronounce and have no idea what ingredients are in it. I enjoy the surprise and it usually works out well for me but there was one occasion when I actually managed to pick something that, for me at least, was as good as inedible. My husband and I were dining with his parents at a mexican restaurant and I ordered something spicy with shrimp, that was the extent of my knowledge because the menu was in spanish and I only speak a little spanish. When the waiter arrived with our food I was a little surprised that mine appeared to be bright green soup but I was still game. Then I noticed that the shrimp floating around in it were gray and started thinking....as a kid I used to help my dad pull his shrimp pots all the time and as far as I know a gray shrimp is a raw shrimp...ok, raw shrimp in green soup, I'm losing enthusiasm but I figure I can still stomach it. How bad can it be? I take my first bite (well spoonful) and discover it's ice cold! On the plus side, though, I also discover where it got its bright green color; what tastes like many, many jalepeno peppers. I like spicy food but not extremely spicy and this was by far the hottest thing I'd ever eaten. In the end I ate about four bites, including one of the shrimp which actually wasn't too bad raw but I still prefer them cooked. That's the story of the only dish I've ever had to send back in a restaurant simply because I didn't like it. In the end it was just too hot, if it hadn't been for that I would have eaten it but put it on my list of stuff not to order again, lol.
