A long, long time ago. I was fascinated by his version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, though. Stunning visually---you can see he was a poet and artist in the film he created.

Saw his BLOOD OF A POET years ago, too. I think that's the one where he had an actor disappear "through" a mirror by using a vat of mercury and turning the camera sideways. Not exactly safe for the actor, but quite an effect.

      Jean Cocteau?
      Mais non!

      The director was Marcel Camus.
The adaptation (of the Orpheus myth) was from Vinicius de Moraes, the poet and song-writing partner of Jobim, author of the lovely songs Garota de Ipanema, Insensatez and Chega de Saudade.

You're right---Cocteau's film was plain old ORPHEUS. My mistake
