I Like This Poem
Earlier today I read a story, here on EP, that someone wrote about those beautiful souls who never give up but quietly continue forward, no matter how much is heaped upon them. It really touched me, and something he wrote also reminded me of a poem.
He said: "They quietly fight battles that no one knows about , this is their unspoken honor."
It's very similar to this poem written by Emily Dickinson, my favorite poet. This is not my favorite of her poems, that would be "Hope Is The Thing With Feathers", but it is amongst my top 5.
To Fight Aloud Is Very Brave
Emily Dickinson
TO fight aloud is very brave,
But gallanter, I know,
Who charge within the bosom,
The cavalry of woe.
Who win, and nations do not see,
Who fall, and none observe,
Whose dying eyes no country
Regards with patriot love.
We trust, in plumed procession,
For such the angels go,
Rank after rank, with even feet
And uniforms of snow.
He said: "They quietly fight battles that no one knows about , this is their unspoken honor."
