Some people advocate going barefoot allows one to connect to the electromagnetic energy in the earth and is therefore regenerative and soothing. They claim it cures almost anyt

Hey Megan! I heard a good one on the Country Network. Do you know the definition of "Badanar"? It's a Southern unit of time. "How long will it take to fix my car?" "Oh, badanar ah guess." I use it with my girls all the time now. "When will dinner be ready?" "Oh, badanar." Growing up in North Carolina must have been fun--well, except maybe for certain schoolroom aspects. It must have been much like growing up where I did, except for the heat and the accents.

Nice story! I grew up in a very strict household and became one of those weird kids who always wore shoes and socks. One summer day, I took 'em off and I was hooked! My parents hated it, but finally gave in. Most of the other kids went barefoot everywhere, too. I think the shoe companies have convinced everyone it's not cool to be barefoot anymore, which is funny since so many ads for other stuff show people in bare feet.
Do you still enjoy being barefoot?

Megan, I am not sure if you are aware of the Society for Barefoot Living, http://www.barefooters.org It is a group of people that advocate for a barefoot lifestyle. It is not a fetish group. It is a family oriented group of like minded people who enjoy going barefoot everywhere. I enjoyed your story. I go barefoor 24/7 365 for medical reasons, I am blind. I would really be interested in becoming friends. Not looking for hookups, just friends.

Admittedly, this is a small thing, but it is strange how going barefoot in the summer seems to have passed out of fashion. I guess I pretty much lost the shoes in warm weather until I was 22 or 23 when everyone else stopped doing it. My mom went barefoot in public until her early 30's, as did a lot of adults back in the day.

This was a long time ago. I haven't done it for quite a few years. The first car I had was an old 1975 Monte Carlo, got that when I was in high school.

I guess Southern country people go barefoot more than Northern country people. Maybe it's just a stereotype. Personally I don't like to go barefoot because I never know what I'm going to step in!

I was in Tampa this past weekend and there is a small park behind the Tampa art museum and I saw maybe only a couple of people barefoot and they were sitting on a towel. All the kids and the majority of adults all had shoes on in the playground area. Now with the flu season beginning, more people are going to be shod with the fear that you may catch a really bad flu bug if you go barefoot, which in fact, you won't.

Shoe manufacturers is part of the problem, false myths, also pharmaceutical company's play a part with all the commercials with athletes foot, hand sanitizer, foot powder, etc, making people think they're gonna get trench foot or something for going barefoot which isn't true. People are buying into all this crap without researching it for themselves and turning into germ-phobics. Its really sad. I've been barefoot for most of my life, with the exception of school, work, cold weather, etc. I've never got a bad foot symptom in that whole time I was barefoot. I did get athletes foot once, but that was because of the hot sweaty work boots I had too wear. So go barefoot if you want to. There's nothing wrong with it and its perfectly healthy to do so. Bare-footing is coming back around again with all the barefoot running and hiking movements, so some people are trying to do it and make it popular like it used too be.

    megan1975,

I remember that many teens use to put their footwear away for summer and did not use them again until school started. I miss those days too.

same here in Nebraska. All of the kids in the neighborhood were barefoot all summer at home or out and about. I agree that it just sort of phased itself out. I see very few bare feet outside anymore
