Get your mind set...confidence will lead you on.

Good advice there. But the trouble is "setting" your mind. Like setting concrete. If you do it right, it's strong. If you don't, it will crumble in no time.

So many of us are distracted by stuff-cell phones-significant others-others who should not be significant-social networks-the problems of family & friends-current events- our challenges in life.

We are so distracted by stuff that we do not set our mind. We worry, fret, or become anxious. Or---maybe worse---we disengage so that we stop feeling the pain and so feel nothing at all, including an urgency to make life better.

What a queer irony, isn't it? We are so distracted that we don't allow our minds to set properly, and our problems continue because of the distractions. Yet we know that if we do set our minds-if we do so with what we know is right and good and maybe even just a little bit hard-then we can take those steps to move ahead with confidence; and our lives improve almost instantly.

In the end, we are better than we give ourselves credit for, we enjoy the efforts required; and we wish we had taken those steps earlier.
