I Like to Cook
Okay so Im also doing this today.
Basically, it's like meatballs in a tray.....that's the translation of the dish. You can make this with two different sauces, tomato or tahini (sesame seed paste).
You take ground beef and mix in allspice, pepper, salt and garlic powder. You can also add a little cinnamon to it if you like that taste, I do sometimes with the tahini sauce. Mix well and form little meatballs, traditionally, its not round like we do it here. It would be round like a meatball and then flatten it a bit so they look like buttons...or some also make them into the shape of a football. Whatever..then place them in a baking tray. Peel and cut potatoes and place over and around the meat. Next, add tomato sauce and cover. Bake for about 30-45 min until done. Eat with rice or by itself..
Tahini sauce-
If Im making it with this sauce, I place the meat in the tray and cover...bake same way. When it is almost done we place the sauce over meat and potatoes. Leave it uncovered and put in back in oven about 15 min.
To make that sauce you take 3/4 tahini paste, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1/2 cup water and blend in blender. Add salt and pepper to taste...it tastes great. You will either love it or hate it. :)
