The Classics

Started to re-read the books of the great English authors of the Victorian period. Dickens, George Eliot and Anthony Trollope. There character development and topics are as relevant today as they were then.

Outside of the advances we have made in technology  and medicine which was sadly missing in that period of time the human failings, avarice, jealousy and distrust, present today in our society were prevalent then as well. Dickens particularly  writes into each of his character so much  depth that they come almost come alive. His plots are deep and varied and somehow the divergent paths he takes you on ultimately come to together in stunning conclusions.

Eliot, like Jane Austen, gives the perspective of women of that period and Dickens does both well.

Always an interesting read and I recommend highly  both Bleak House and  Martin Chuzzlewit by Dickens and  The Way We Live Now and The Barchester Chronicles by George Eliot.
