early in the show Mary complains to her mother that her one school dress is missing from the washline, Her Mother figures the wind blew it off and away
a couple days later , Krissy tells Mary her dress disappeared write off the washline" the girls begin to accuse one another of stealing dresses
they calm down and decide a simple explanation is being over looked
the next scene all kaos inrupts when most every girl in girl states a dress they own has gone missing
A poor girl is singled out and accused , even some evidence suggests shes a thief, she came to school wearing a dress just like Laura had stolen
she claims she got it from the same store as Laura.
The Olesons get invovled with Nellie has 2 dresses taken from her washline.
a plan to catch the thief is made by a select few girls - they'd each put a dress on the washline the same day, each dress would have a powder that causes a rash spinked inside- the thieve would be revealed by her scratching
