Talk to a few lawyers in your area, every lawyer I called provided a free initial consultation. Laws var by state - so it is difficult to advise on TX law, but you should be able to leave these consultations with a good perspective on the likely outcome of a divorce with respect to your assets, future income, and custody.

I used Nolo Press for my divorce. Here's a page on when you need a lawyer:

They have lots of resources for a divorcing person

I'm in NC, so I can't help with Texas. How easy it is depends in a large degree on state law. In NC you can't divorce, even if there is abuse or infidelity, until you have been separated for one year. I hope it's not like that in TX. Whether there will be drama depends on whether he accepts it is over. Not much you can do about that. If it hurts him it's not your fault. It's just a painful process. Worry about you and your child, not him. If you have custody of your child, he will most likely have to pay support, and the court, not him, will decide how much.

It will be difficult for your child to see this unfold, but you will be teaching him/her a valuable lesson, that it is not a good thing to stay in pathological relationships.

Wish I had some advice about the cost. Lawyers are expensive. But you need one to know what you need to do. Shop around though. There are different degrees of expensive. Of course, you get what you pay for, but maybe you can find an attorney with a good reputation who charges reasonable (for lawyers) fees. Don't just open the phone book and pick one out.
