F(x) = Cos(x) + a

There are some aspects of my life that seem to move in cycles, much the same way that the economy, the stock market and natural systems will have their cycles.

It's true we all have mood cycles, but people also seem to cycle in and out my life, and en masse as well. At times there is a great surplus, at other times there is no-one at all. Inspiration, luck, resources, ability, confidence, momentum... it all comes in ebbs and flows, but rarely even in a steady and linear fashion.

As they say, when it rains, it pours.

What's more, there seem to be patterns that are burned into my life path.

I hope one day I will be able to escape them, but time and again, it is the same old characters types, the same old roles, playing out the same old tired lines in an all too familiar drama. Or, in my case, sub-drama because there is rarely anything greatly dramatic.

It might well be this is just a very good example of what happens to people who don't learn from their mistakes.

cycles and patterns become comfortable for some people and although they recognize a discontent with their history, they also recognize it's easier to continue on the same path rather than putting forth the effort to change themselves. positve change requires a great amount of energy and dedication. i had to reflect, recognize the patterns and then determine the decisions i made and actions i took that led me down the cyclical path. it was quite an undertaking but i've changed several patterns in my life, so far successfully, by taking on one at a time. good luck!

This is a thought, but if you record, and analyze (which to some extent, self-reflection / sharing is a part of), perhaps you can anticipate the patterns in order to enact the change you want. I realize its hard to do while part of a cycle or pattern currently in motion, as I keep wanting to do it myself, but haven't managed to yet.

You seem to recognize the things you don't want to repeat though, so you are learning from history. I hope you can figure out a way to break the cycle and get what you want from life.
