I Live In San Francisco
We moved here from New York in 1947. Then a few years later my mother found a house
in the Richmond District for $15,000. I lived there until I got married and bought a house
in the sunset for $17,000. It's hard to believe, isn't it, that you could actually have a house
for so little money, although at that time it was a lot of money. I had to cash in an insurance
policy and borrow $1000 from parents just to be able to put a 10% down payment. That same
house sold last year for $995000. Crazy huh? But I love this city and can't imagine living
anywhere else. The weather sucks though. Especially in the summer. I dream about warm
summer days. But like the old saying goes, "In your dreams honey". In those days, there
wasn't as many cars as there are now and kids used to play in the street. We used to have a
party line on our phone. That was where two people had the same phone line. Sometimes
we would talk to each other. I travel all over the world and this is still my favorite place of all.
