Love the bike in the first pic!! There is a sense of emptiness, of someone missing that should be there. And then that tiny little man across the street, another bit of interest. There's a whole story in that pic.

The architecture of the Balmoral Hotel is gorgeous!! I love the buildings in your city!! Such character and personality and so much interest for the eye.

I'm really pleased with the first picture. The bike is the focal point, even though I deliberately have the castle in the shot. The castle is centred, and the bike is slightly off-centre. I like having my main focal points in a picture being a little off to the side, rather than in the very centre of the frame.

Anyway, the "joke" in this picture is that the castle dominates and that is a typical touristy picture, but the picture is of a bike. Kind of the reverse of those pictures where someone is trying to capture a landmark, but missing an extra element that's spoiling everything.

Is that the castle you mentioned before that people think is very old but it actually was built not long ago?

I agree, having the focal point off-center adds more interest, and it is indeed a bit of a twist to upstage the castle with a simple bike. It worked out fabulously!

I did say once before, that it wasn't old. But it's VERY old - I was making that up. I thought you'd picked up on the gag.

I have difficulty knowing sometimes when you're pulling my leg because you can be so serious and deadpan in your humor and I don't recall you ever using emoticons, like smiley faces and whatnot (I can already see you snickering).

You remind me of a British friend of mine. I have difficulty getting her humor sometimes, too.

Maybe we're not talking about the same castle. I could swear you went on about it a bit, saying how the buildings in Edinburgh were actually not as old as most people thought.

Oh, never mind. I'll just skip to the end. The end. :-)

No. It was definitely that castle. And I never referred to any other buildings as being younger than people believed.

Once, I was standing on Princes Street with a Texan girl and I claimed that my cousin and I would skive off school and watch the castle being built. She believed me too, for the very same reasons you just said. I didn't smile or laugh.

      I never use emoticons.

I'm inputting a reminder in my iPhone that some day when we meet in person, I'm going to flog your peachy arse and other tender bits for that gag!

I didn't think you'd need a reminder for that. I thought I'd already earned one for some other reason somewhere. I'd already resigned myself to it.

After the flogging, just in case the message of punishment wasn't clear, I'll be dragging you to see "We Will Rock You" in all its glory. Then I will surely see the pain on your face! ;-)

The top one is Edinburgh Castle, but I love the bike in the foreground. The other one is the Balmoral Hotel. Edinburgh is full of buildings like this, which makes it easy to get cool pictures.
