Moving to St Lucia

Hi Everyone, I will be moving my family to St. Lucia next year, 2008 and have just bought a house there. I will be running a company doing new builds and plumbing/electrical work and we will also be doing tourist accommodation. Just starting to find our way and will try and report regularly with any problems or positives as we go!

how much does it cost to rent a flat in St Lucia?
And how is the safest and cheapest way to do so?

depends where you're looking and whether furnished or unfurnished. Around Rodney Bay you can find unfurnished 1 bedrooms for as low as $800 EC (sometimes) and a nice 2 bedroom with great views for $2500 EC. (2.71EC=$1)

WELL GOOD LUCK WITH THAT IF YOU DONT WATCH YOURSELF U WILL BE RUNNING BACK TO USA OR UK IN 2 TO 3 YRS, THE ISLAND HAS ALOT OF GREED ENVY AND JEALOUSY GOOD LUCK BE SURE TO KEEP A GOOD GET AWAY PLAN

Hey Djustice.....could you please elaborate in what you're saying about "greed envy".....is this this between the locals, and those better off? Or what? I just applied to buy a home and put money down and found your post interesting but very vague...almost a tint of dissention....or, something lese hidden

Why don't you explain what the hell you're talking about? Just throwing crap out there like this does not help anyone....anywhere!

Hello cdsbend. Have you moved yet? where you moving from? What part of the island are you moving to?
I just spend 5 weeks there this summer 2011 and am supposed to move there in the next few months and feel myself backing out. Have you lived there before? It is...interesting. There was a lot of the 'keeping up with the jones' feel there. Like a lot of other places though but the island is poor and then there's the rich people so it seems...well, money focused for sure. I can't explain it. I'd love to hear your take on it though.

Hi! Yes, I have. And I bought a nice home and loving the experience! It is very well balanced here and there's great opportunities as well. You can call me if you'd like as I have a local U.S. number so we can talk and I can answer any questions....much better for me than to type :) Randy 541-385-3343

Hello cdsbend, I was tempted to call your no to chat a little about your move to Slu but thought I should first chat here. I too am considering the idea of moving to Slu with my two younger ones 13 & 8 because I consider the standards of schooling out there to be excellent!! I did my secondary schooling there. I'm a nurse and a single mom and was wondering how easy (or not) was it for you to purchase a house there?

LOL, i agree

If you still here i can explain

Hi Sepatgram

I am reserching the idea of moving to St Lucia. My partner went to school there and we both think that it will be best for the boys to attend school there.

My partner is a qualified electrician and also has his testing and inspecting certificate.

Are there currently any electrical jobs on the island?

I work in accounts for a large corporate company but think that i wil stay at home with our youngest until he is ready to attend school.

If you could advise i would appreciate it.
Kind regards

Good Luck!
