Everyone Say's It's Nothing, But I Don't Believe It

I was born missing a finger on my right hand. It has made me quiet and withdrawn much of the time and I battle depression most of the time. Everybody says I make too much of it. But I can't let it go! And the doctor who delivered me cut a nerve in my face which makes me talk crooked. Again, everyone says it's nothing. But it's always in my head.

I know that feeling. I hate how people here never tell you the truth so you can deal with it, but even if it wasn't a big deal and they were telling the truth you'd have no way of knowing because you're supposed to lie to spare people's feelings. i hate it

That's terrible!! Not because it's a true flaw or anything. But because of the massive mental stress that puts on a person trying to be social and "get out there." People often obsess over their looks, or a pimple on their face, they over obsess of the littlest of details (what color tie?) etc... and here you have things that you can't even HELP but have. :(

I understand why you must be frustrated and withdrawn. I'm sorry the hand of another (like that doctor!) had to ruin your nerve like that... that must've shattered you with disappointment. I'm seriously hurt by what little you've shared....

But listen, you CAN'T let that get you down. You can't!

That's why people tell you "eh, it's nothing. it's all in your head.." cause it IS nothing compared to what you CAN achieve.

Don't believe me?

Think of all the disgusting people out there living their lives? Perverts, pedophiles, con-artists, liars, scammers, hypocrites, rapers, murderers, (the list goes on) and they have SO MUCH to be ashamed of... yet, they're not. They believe they DESERVE a social life. They believe they SHOULD go out and have fun.

So imagine someone like you? Don't let the bad guys go out and leave a mark on their world while someone with potential like yourself sits around avoiding life. I promise you you have a LOT to offer in this world. And you may not believe in a Higher Thing out there... but at the very least, trust in your potential. Trust in your ability to do what you can.

I've met people with amputations, "deformities," "Birth defects," etc.. in relationships with other people. I swear to you, I'm not lying. I honestly think it has something to do with how you carry and see yourself.

Damn, his name evades me, but there is this author who seems to speak with a slur as he rests on a wheel chair, yet everyone celebrates his knowledge and contribution to human thinking. I wish I remember what his name was... Blah.

Well, I can't right now, so you'll just have to take my word on it. You've got NOTHING to lose... seek your potential and to hell with everybody else! They're too shallow (obsessing about minor blemishes, etc) to understand you, and those who ARE deeper with see past your exterior and be attracted to your interior. People of ALL kinds.... not just the kind you think you're limited to or worthy of (whatever that may be.)
Sorry for the long post... your message just touched me that deeply.

I've met people with amputations, "deformities," "Birth defects," etc.. in relationships with other people. People who are attractive and, most importantly, have character and depth. I swear to you, I'm not lying. I honestly think it has something to do with how you carry and see yourself.
They're too shallow (obsessing about minor blemishes, etc) to understand you, and those who ARE deeper will see past your exterior and be attracted to your interior, which will then SHAPE your exterior and self identity. People of ALL kinds will see the new you.... not just the kind you think you're limited to or worthy of (whatever that may be.)
I can only say one thing... don't let it get the best of you! We can't choose our situations, we can't choose what happens to us or the way we were born. These elements are out of our controll. The only thing that is in our control is how we react to our situations. Please, please read the book A Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. This book will change your life, as it has mine.
