He Was Like a Father to Me

I lost both of my grandfather's in a two week span during the summer of 2007. My mom's dad first to cancer-he was my hero. I lived with him my entire life and when I was little people used to call me his shadow. Where he went I went, thats just the way it was.

He was that one person in my life that I thought 'nothing could happen to him, he's always going to be there'. When we found out he had cancer I lost it (my family doesn't have a good record when it comes to cancer) but I still kept telling myself that he would make it. Unforunately he didn't...luckily I got to spend his last night alive with him in the hospital, I know I'm lucky that I got to say good bye but it still hurts every day.

My step-dad's father passed away two weeks later (almost to the day). He had been sick for a while but we all thought he was getting better but he got up one night and had a massive brain anurisum *sp?*.

Needless to say the summer of 2007 was a bad time for me.

I completely understand where your coming from about being your grandpa's shadow. I'm so sorry for both of your losses. Its such a hard process I wish it could be easier. You should read my story about my grandpa i think we could relate.

I am sorry that you had to go through that so close together. Cherish your memories of them and they will live on in your heart. Take care.
