I Don't Know If I Believe In God Anymore

   When I was 15, I converted to Islam. It all seemed to make sense, and I thought that I was going down the right path- and I was. My attitude was better, I became alot more mature, and I felt like my life had purpose to it. Now, I'm becoming skeptical as to whether God exists or not. I don't really know why I feel this way. My dilemma is not knowing whether there is an afterlife. If there is, and I die, I'm pretty much screwed considering the fact that I almost completely shunned my religion, and if there's not, and I revert back to Islam,(or any religion, for that matter,) then I wasted alot of time not being able to life my life how I want, because of certain things being "looked down upon" or being considered a sin. I'm just stuck and I have no clue what to do next.

Being skeptical isn't a bad thing at all. Extraordinary claims require evidence. Be wary of those who tell you what to think, instead learn how to think. Good luck, it's a tough thing to lose your faith but it can be wonderful to finally be free.

You started becoming lost the further you really got from Islam. If you actually believed and continued your belief and not just changed with the fashion at that time you would never be driven away from Islam. Islam is beautiful, and just think, if we adapted from Apes, why did we stop adapting, if theirs isn't an afterlife and life was just a big accident why were we not able to continue adapting. In the Quran it says you "why don't you pray and question your belief even when you know your going to die". Think about it and InshAllah you find your way back from pointless needs and temporary fun, and come back to Islam and really drive yourself to live a humble, respectful, and happy life.

ive had the same problem, always questioning God.I havent really cared about beleiveing in god and after a sighn i was given im gonna be changing my life around. i smoke alot of weed and ive been always asking for someone to be with, and someone i can always be with and not think about weed. ive always been asking God for this and a week ago ive meet the most beautifuliest girl and ive been spending every minute i can with her. i know now that he has answered my question and so far the relationship has been pperfect so please read this and know that if u keep beleiving he wil answer your prayers. it doesnt matter what religion you beleive all i know is God is real and he died for my sins

Please don't say God died because it honestly doesn't make sense. And trust me if only a girl is whats keeping you a believer, then if anything happens between your relationship you will blame it on God and thats not fare. Become a believer and try to live the way Mankind is supposed to live, the way God told us to live, and hopefully everything comes to you. Im a born muslim, but I've been on my own since i was about 15, i been through a lot but i never turned to drugs, or blamed God for what I've been through, i was never religious but i believed and I'm starting to get better in my religion, and so far its been great, and hopefully you u take this message as advice and it drives you onto the right path. Watch youtube videos, watch Ahmed Deedat, if you want to find the right path he can defenintly get you their.

I believe that religion is a comfort to some, a lifestyle to many, and a major divide between the ranks of humanity. Though I could easily be considered biased, I believe that life is about spiritual growth and simply being happy.<br />
<br />
It makes the most sense, everyone Wants to be happy. Everyone Wants to fall in love, have kids, grow old together ect and why? Because that is the main ideal for being Happy.<br />
<br />
My advice is listen to your heart, soul search and find what is right for you. Live your life free of regret, and do your best to enjoy and be happy. If that is how you lived, no loving god would dispise you for it.<br />
@ihatefrank I've never liked the term god fearing either. Its Idea is to mean that we keep a humble outlook, as far as i've gathered, and that nothing else really has the power to alter our lives. The bible stories i've read, or the discriptions i've seen tend to be quite destructive for a loving god. Dante wrote his Inferno, and the popular belief at the time was that unbaptised babied go to hell (or perg, i cant recall atm), I couldn't ever agree with something like that myself.

Someone said that god wants us to be, among other things, god-fearing. Sounds awful that we should have to fear an all-merciful being, doesn't it? I guess if I still believed in the bible I would fear him. Remember when he killed innocent babies and children for being the first born? And when he demanded blind obedience that called for human sacrifices? Close family members no less. Remember when god flooded the world and killed countless numbers of people? How about when he forced a man to have sex with and impregnate his daughters? All of that is in the bible. The more I read the more I hated the biblical god. I don't believe in religion anymore. I don't believe in the bible anymore. I might still believe in a higher power of a god, but not the scary wicked murderous god of the bible. Don't believe me, read the bible for yourself. You may wish you hadn't, there is so much disturbing passages that will cause you to question, then abandon, your religion. We all deserve an explanation.

I didn't expecting 1 answer to this question .<br />
<br />
I think god is merciful and no way he would like to show us this "alleged hell". no,no , god is much bigger than this , religions all made by humans to humans , how do you think you will know god through a human like you , you have to expirence him yourself. he is merciful, I just can't think he would "throw" you in hell !!

What's the hurry? You're on a spiritual quest. It's a lifelong process.<br />
<br />
Islam appears to offer easy answers because it includes a strict code of conduct and the Islamic community gives immediate rewards for adhering to that code of conduct. That doesn't mean that Islam speaks to your soul or even that it is the ultimate religion.<br />
<br />
I always liked Einstein's idea that we could not have such a well ordered universe without G-d.<br />
<br />
As long as you leave your heart open to G-d, He (might be She) will speak to you. You may not always hear Him and you may not like everything He does, but He will speak none the less. The Creator of the Universe goes by many names and is worshiped in many different ways. Look around and see what is out there. Christianity never held any great appeal to me, but Judaism, Buddhism, Wicca and it's relations do. As you study, you will see a pattern of universal truth start to emerge. It must be your study so that it will be your truth. <br />
<br />
Cynda, you can tune out from here on if you like. I'm making a rebuttal to JazzY25. You may find some of my points about Islam uncomfortable.<br />
<br />
Jazzy, I'll agree that the bulk of Islam isn't about hatred or anything else nasty. However I will also point out no one in this century has been threatened with death or killed for criticizing Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism or Wicca. Does the name Van Gogh (that's the film maker, not the painter.) mean anything? Islamic though is quite specific about how a Muslim is to deal with non believers who make critical observations about Islam and it's not nice. Islam is also the only religion I've ever heard of that is currently trying to enforce the death penalty for apostasy. Would you like to review Geert Wilders' video? I loved his use of quotes from the Quran combined with news footage. <br />
<br />
For that matter, follow this link to Al Jazeera. It's about Muslims in Malaysia attacking Christians for referring to G-d by the name Allah. It either is G-d's name or it isn't. If it is, then it's for anyone to use who wishes to name G-d. <br />
<br />
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/asia-pacific/2010/01/20101871816435228.html <br />
<br />
I found this quote from the article amusing; "Muslims in Malaysia argue that the "Allah" is exclusive to Islam, and its use by Christians would confuse Muslims." Gotta be some pretty dumb people to be so easily confused. Since I doubt that the Muslims of Malaysia are that stupid, it just comes down to another Islamist excuse to chop up non Muslims.<br />
<br />
Credit and blame must be honestly given or neither is valid.

Dont just believe what you hear, but look for yourself. Islam is not a blood thirsty religion. For example theirs a part in the Quran that state you can kill a none believer in Mecca, but people stop reading their and point out that verse. But continue reading, it then states But only if this none believe is trying to keep you from getting to the Kaaba, and BUT only if this none believe also attacks you first. So if you read you will see that Islam tries to keep you from violence, but people don't like to continue reading. Also these so called muslims that kill, who are calling them Muslims. Im a Muslim and i know any true Muslim will disagree with terrorist like action, and say anyone doing such crimes are not Muslims, and that is not Islam.

i feel pretty much the same way. i dont know if god exists or which religion is right. sometimes it all seems like a waste of time.

Then ask yourself if their is no God then why are you here. If evolution is true why are we dying and why are we not still evolving. Because if we can evolve from Apes, and the sun, star, and sky was just a big accident then i think we should be able to evolve over death. Just honestly try to find the answer, and when you find the truth, and what actually makes sense, hold it and follow it, don't give it up for temporary fun, because when you die you will regret it.

I promise you this. You would be doing yourself a great favor indeed if you read a case for Christ. It is by a mn who tried to prove that Christianity was false and foolish only to proove otherwise.<br />
JazzY25... I've studied multiple religions in depth and hate to tell you that richlady is quite accurate and actulay being very polite! You talk about media over here. They are by NO means favorable to Christianity and a few other religions but more and more try to mock God.<br />
And by the way smebro, you stated as fact and not opinion as you say. Judisam, Christainity and Many NON-BIASED scientist have more than proven their is a God. I've spent thousands of hours in that area and fuly would be foolish for me to say otherwise. I too tried to proove their was no God or a t least a good one. I found otherwise and dare not speak against the fact even under fear of ridicule and or even death.

I fully agree with you, Im a Muslim, and in my religion i must believe in everything Jesus(PBUH) has taught, and i do, but also in Islam were taught that science is the work of God, and this is a way of him teaching us how unique and small he can make us. Did you know the Quran teaches about fingerprints, nerves, and many more scientific things about 1400 hundred years ago, way before they were actually discovered, but for some reason people still want to use the great signs he has gave us, to try to prove he doesn't exist. Its very said, how low the human mind can think.

We are human beings. We all make mistakes. God who created us knows this and expect us to make mistakes. But have hope in the Mercy and Love of God - return back to Him no matter how many times you fall in the ditch. Remember the feeling when you used to call out to Him. God disposes of His Blessings to atheists who deny His Existence and Creation of them. God disposes his Blessings to people of all religions - because there is only One Creator - even if our ways of approaching Him may not be as Godfearing and Purified as God may want - He always listens and responds as He deems best for each and everyone of us. God bestows Faith to those who really want it. If you want it, make the intention in your heart and seek with humbleness and tears in the dark and quiet nights for God to bless you with Faith again. Submit to God.<br />
<br />
Say:"O my servants who have transgressed against their souls (ie. committed sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of God for God forgives all sins for He is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful".<br />
<br />
Koran 39:53

I am the same way... not really Athiest I go to church (Nondenominational Christian) sometimes but I really don't know if it is there so I can't fully pour my heart into it. SO what I live by is this:<br />
1)Live life to the fullest<br />
2)See step one<br />
3)Try to stay away from the REALLY bad sins but the rest are up for grabs<br />
4)Do a good deed as often as possible<br />
5)See step 2<br />
6)See step 5<br />

I like this line "life is too precious to waste on lies" I agree :-) atheism all the way, why believe in something that doesn’t exist when you can enjoy the world that does while you're lucky enough o be a conscious entity here. It's a shame to waste time on the imaginary god and his imaginary wishes. I’m not putting ya'll down, just giving my opinion.

You know its really funny "RICHLADY" how you say you dont preach hatred towards Islam yet you claim that Islam preaches hatred to its believers. I think you should do a little more research and educate yourself before you say such horrific things about a religion you know nothing about. I would never attack anyones religion weather I believed in it or not and you my friend certainly have no right to either. So do yourself a favor and stop saying things without having facts to back it up. And please people stop letting the American Media poison your minds search for the truth because I have and I found it and can prove it.

If God is really merciful, surely He will understand your predicament, no?

i read your story and it touched my heart, i was born a muslim and converted to christianity when i turned 29. i do not preached hatred toward islam only that i believe any religion that preaches hatred and destruction is not of god . god is love he is found everwhere when we search for him he will not fail to answer. god sometimes feels out of reach but in the midst of all that we endure in life he is the silent comforter and when you ask he shall respond. i found god in the eyes of many a situation and sometimes he was not to be found but in the middle of your discoveries of life god will be there to guide you and show you the way. life is too precious to waste on lies, read the bible god will show you the truth. the quaran speaks of killing and hating, masked by love but god the real god masks nothing his intentions and love for you and loving those around you are real. in love is the answer

Hello richlady, what you are saying is so true.. I am an ex-muslim too and i have come to know christ a couple of years ago.. Christ is love something i never felt or knew through islam.. since i became a christian i found joy, love, and peace of mind and soul.. i am glad that i have been saved.. sadly i am back living in amuslim community lately and i feel attacked all the time.. hiding my true self and faith unable to walk in grace of god.. God is love.. it is only when we are in toxic environments that our faith gets tested and shaken and worst we are attacked to become disbelievers.. I am trying to hang on as much as possible but i am so tired of all these attacks on my spirit.. would you please pray for me.

Uh.. I'd just like to ask, where did you both hear that Islam is a religion of hatred because it's not. Please don't listen to media, it's all lies sister.
