My Friend Hilary

I lost a dear friend to suicide ten years ago, Hilary was fun loving, intelligent  and a great friend. To cut a long story short the problems started after the birth of her daughter and post natal depression.

I watched her struggle with life and eventually every day tasks became impossible. She came to visit me one morning, I now know it was to say goodbye, my last vision of her was walking backwards up the road waving to me.

Hilary walked along the railway track, lay down on a bend and waited on the train. I spent many years full of guilt that I hadn't been able to help her more but realise now I could never have stopped her.

I still miss her, but have lots of happy memories of the better times.
