I Love Acting
My whole family are performers, but i don't mean that we live to perform or we perform to live. We are just performers. We all love the arts any kind of arts...
My mum has performed in various plays back home in the philippines when she was still in school. She's a great singer and actor. and I got my talents from her.
When I was younger we have school pefromances. they made me sing and dance and act. and it was really fun. I always thought of acting and performing on stage a really fun thing. I never really had to try so hard to act. As i grew older I left the school stage and went to the church stage where i was able to perform for larger crowds. At church we did a whole bunch of different play styles. We did a lipsynch play which was very very good. We did lots of spoofs. Well what can you expect... we were all kids hahahah but the audience loved it.
It was only until I came to Beijing, China when i got to experience real acting on stage.
2 years ago there was an advertisement on the expat magazine for an audition. It was a play called "Christmas Carol". my parents urged me and my sister to go and audition. We went there and read from scripts and sang songs and stuff.
I wanted to get in... but after the auditions I though i didn't do a very good job because it was my very first audition with script reading and it felt kinda odd.. hahha
A few days later a got a call from the theatre group (Beijing Playhouse) and they said that my sister was picked to play Ghost of Christmas past and I got to play Martha Crachit and the party Fiddler. it was the moment where I was a part of a real theatre group.
Beijingplayhouse is the only english language performing theatre group in Beijing. Now isnt that something
so... reheasals were every night from 6-9pm. It was fun and my sister loved it. Our directors were really nice, they don't scream and shout at us like those other directors in other performing groups.
That was the start of my theatre "career" after A christmas carol, I auditioned again for their next play which was "guys and dolls" a broadway musical. Of course I got in as Crapshooter. Don't let my roles fool you. it may sound like Im an insignificant part of the play but being crapshooter is hard work... lol hahahah!
After Guys and Dolls, Beijing Playhouse had other shows "love letters" and very recently "the odd couple" i wasn't able to join these performance because I wasn't in the country when they held the auditions. *cries* but it doesn't matter. I'm a part of the Beijing Playhouse family... I'm one of the original pioneering actresses there and it feels so good to be able to act iwht other people on stage... :)
