My Favorite Quote

I love this quote from naturalist writer Henry Beston's book The Outermost House and just want to share it with fellow animal/nature lovers in case you haven't read it before.

“We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth."

What profund words, thanks for sharing them. I believe we are all interconnected; so we are doing tremendous harm to ourselves as we selfishly, stupidly and horribly go about destroying the balance of nature and her creatures. I believe nature holds the cures for all our diseases and sicknesses, but until we learn to live in respect and harmony with her, allowing everything to have their rightful respect and place in this world, we will never know. Nature is our gift, but we have cursed her, and ourselves. X@

That was pretty awesome and i agree all the way.Animals are such a blessing to have with us on earth' and hopfully one day people will quit abuseing them.

I agree so much with that, :)

So So true the saddest thing isnt it. With out them there could be no us.

Thank you for reading and reminding me of how much I love this quote. Nature is indeed beautiful and filled with wonder, my friend :)

Thanks for your comment, sweetie
