It's Me

I don't know the author of this lovely poem but any dog lover will be needing some tissues....
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me...

Tears rolled down my face... I just lost my dogs and this was just amazing.

Oh what a truly touching poem as I am reading it tears are rolling down my face it as specially as it reminds me of how I feel ever since my beloved paw-pall passed away almost 9 yrs ago in October 2005 she was almost 13 yrs old and although I only knew her for 5 years I loved her deeply as she was my true soul mate, she was there when I felt sad and when I was feeling lonely, The ones we love never leave us once they’re gone their presence is always with us in our hearts and memories, The dog I am referring to was called Freeway Elizabeth Spence, she was a golden Labrador/retriever cross breed, she was a rescued dog as her original owners abandoned her as a puppy she moved in with a loving family who I later lodged with in Harrogate England.
and though I only knew freeway from when she was 7 until she passed away aged 12 and a half years old, she was my best friend and every year that goes by without her is all the more painful emotionally as she was the love of my life, in the end she had to be put to sleep as she had arthritis in all four of her legs and she wasn’t eating her food anymore whilst this saddens me I know that I will eventually end up getting another dog but I know none will ever replace her as she was special in so many ways I chose my avatar in her memory as it's a picture of her

Rest In Peace

Awww, that's beautiful, I wonder sometimes about pets that have passed and my Missy some day, she's still young but of course one year for me is seven for her... this poem is so touching...

Thank you so much.
Your friend :)

Thank you for liking it my friend :) Anyone who has had a special pet knows what a sweet gift they have been given and what a treasure to know such a bond of unconditional love. Hopefully your sweet & smart Missy will be around for quite some time.
