I started caring for animals when I was just a little girl. It started when I found a dead mouse, and my heart hurt that it was dead. I took it home and showed my father, who told me to bury it because it may carry disease. I took it to the woods nearby and buried it, made a cross out of wood sticks, and put stones all around the burial site. Thereafter was an on-going love for animals, bringing stray cats in without my parents knowing and keeping them hidden in my bedroom. However, it didn't take long for them to find out because my dad, come to find out, was allerigic to cats! I would find him hanging his head out a window to get fresh air because his allergy caused his eyes to itch uncontrollably, and his throat would swell, and that's when he would soon discover that I had a stray cat in my bedroom. Needless to say...I would have to let him go and knew it was the right thing to do because I loved my father and didn't want to see him suffer. But it did not keep me from loving animals. When I became an adult, married, and started my own life, I could not wait to have my own sweet, baby kitten who I could raise and love with no limits of affection, love, and caring for he or she. Since then, I have had the most beautiful, loving relationships with the animals in my life who have lived 20+ years. I am 56 yrs. old and to this day cannot say that I have a human friend who I feel closer to than the animals I've had in my life. I suppose if I ran across a human friend who cared for animals as much as I do, then I could become a loyal friend; although, I know there are good people out there who do care and love animals as much as I do...I just haven't, unfortunetly, personally met someone like that yet. I love and respect those people I see on T.V. who dedicate and sacrifice their lives to the well-being and lives of other creatures on earth. If I had it to do all over again and knew what I know today, I would have tried to do things differently by dedicating my life to a profession of the protection of these wonderful, beautiful, innocent, earthly angels that God has given us as gifts to adore and ensure that they are loved and protected. It is a RELIGION in itself!
